The Right Side of History?
Be less concerned about being on the right side of History and more concerned about being on the right side of Eternity.
One is temporal and the other is eternal.
Justin, aren’t you afraid of being “judged” by history?
In a word, no.
Wondering how people 20 years from now will see you is taking an extremely narrow view of history.
Empires rise and fall. One kingdom is replaced by another. Political systems change and long held beliefs are supplanted by new creeds. Philosophies, which are in fashion, fall out of favor and become distant echoes. New propaganda will replace the old. Value systems erode. Gender is redefined. Where are the Babylonians, Assyrians, and Romans today? Britain once ruled an empire on which the sun never set.
How many times has man tried to build a Utopia and failed?
Even those who live in the West (from our celebrated cultural perch) would be surprised if they took a plane and traveled to China, Russia or India and encountered a new way of thinking about the world.
History is what God has ordained, regardless of how man chooses to interpret it. For who knows? Perhaps those who, today, speak of being on the right side of history will one day be replaced by people with viewpoints antithetical to the current ones in vogue.
Build your life on what is unchanging.
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods cae, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” –Matthew 7:24-25
